雷利史考特執導的電影，除了經典之作銀翼殺手 Blade Runner（1982）和 異形 Alien（1979）之外，也拍攝了許多叫好又叫座的電影，這部普羅米修斯 Prometheus更是他久久沒再拍攝的科幻驚悚片類型，所以特別讓人期待。
導演更表明這部電影雖然不會出現異形，但是劇情設定在異形第一集的數年前，並且會出現令人熟悉的相關物件，所以被稱之為異形前傳。
可以看到第一集中的巨大外星人似乎有出現在目前釋出的預告片中。同時，也可以看到異形系列裡出現的商船與企業名稱。但是，也有消息指出，導演意圖將本片與異形系列作出劃分。所以，真實的劇情可能要等之後的訊息才能知曉嚕。

最後，讓人好奇的普羅米修斯 Prometheus這個片名是否在暗示甚麼呢? 原出自希臘神話的片名普羅米修斯(Prometheus)象徵「先知先覺」(先慮)之意。希臘神話傳說中，普羅米修斯(Prometheus)用粘土創造了人類。並把人的外貌造得比動物高貴，跟神一樣是直立的。
之後，創作了人類的普羅米修斯(Prometheus)非常同情生活在黑暗中的人類，所以普羅米修斯還從宙斯之處盜火給人類。於是他找到太陽，帶回火種為人類開啟了光明。除此之外，普羅米修斯還教導人類各種技能，包含：建造家屋、算術、文字、觀測氣候、飼養，以及馴服野獸、造船航海等技術，使人類的文明向前跨出一大步。但是，也因為盜火之事，造成了宙斯和普羅米修斯之間的嫌隙。
宙斯對普羅米修斯(Prometheus)的行為大為憤怒，他決定要對人類還有普羅米修斯(Prometheus)的行為報復。宙斯對人類的復仇，就是後來的潘朵拉(Pandora)的故事。
宙斯對普羅米修斯的報復則是，宙斯令僕人「武力」和「暴力」將他抓起，帶到高加索(Mount Caucasus)山頂上的巨岩上，以無人能解的堅牢鐵鍊將他捆綁，對他說，非人的苦難將永遠折磨你。解救你的人尚未出生，你溺愛人類才遭苦果。身為神明不怕天帝震怒，賜予人非份的恩典。所以你該守衛無趣的岩峰，不能安歇不能睡覺，不能片刻休憩，以呻吟代替言語，以哀嘆代替交談。
宙斯驅使一隻大鷲每天啄食普羅米修斯(Prometheus)的肝臟，白天被啄的肝臟到了夜晚又會重新復原，普羅米修斯每天都必須遭受這無止盡的痛苦，但這難以忍受的苦痛並沒有因此讓普羅米修斯屈服，不管宙斯派誰來警告他，普羅米修斯始終認為同情人類並沒有錯，也不向宙斯的暴力低頭。
